The Trojanites rocksteady at Thunderclap

Thunderclap marked six months Oct. 15 with its best-attended night yet, as the Trojanites played Riverside for the first time and brought one of their own home.

The show at Brüe Crüe on Sterling Avenue was the sixth installment of the live music series, presented by Embarc dispensaries and Sixty Miles East.

For The Trojanites Tony Greene, the night was a homecoming. Greene, a Riverside native, is known for his time with the Debonaires and the Revivers.

The Trojanites haven't been around long, but it is an all-star affair, and the expertise shows. The lineup includes current and former members of the Revivers, Mobtown, the Debonaires, Arise Roots and the Untouchables. These are seasoned musicians who know how to execute and work a crowd.

The Trojanites play traditional Jamaican-style rocksteady, and Boss Reggae. Their sound is marked by a heavy R&B and soul influence over Jamaican rhythm, with tight two-part harmonies and dual lead vocals. The interplay between Greene's ringing tenor and Malik Moore's dulcet baritone rides above the band's pulsing groove.

The set mixed originals with favorites, including Desmond Dekker's "Israelites" and the Specials' version of "You're Wondering Now."

Thunderclap is gaining momentum each month and we look forward to bringing the champion sound to Brüe Crüe well into the future.
